About me

My name is Ben Keeley and I am an NCTJ trained journalist with a BA (Hons) Journalism 2:1 degree from Southampton Solent University. I am also currently an intern in the University’s Press Office and am studying for an MA Media with Public Relations.

I currently am seeking full-time employment in journalism or public relations. I have experience working at a local newspaper, The Southern Daily Echo, which covers the area of South-central Hampshire, England. This includes the city of Southampton and the surrounding towns of Eastleigh and Thornhill among others. The Daily Echo, or The Echo, as it is commonly known, is owned by Newsquest, which is the second largest publisher of local newspapers in the United Kingdom.

I have Press Office experience working in the Marketing and Communications department at Southampton Solent University. The Solent Press Office communicates to members of the media for the purpose of announcing something of news value. The Solent Press Office serves in the field of public relations the aim of which is to attract favorable media attention to Solent University. According to the Solent Press Office website[1] its aim is to provide a first-class service to the media, by providing timely, accurate and relevant information.

I also have worked on the Solent University newspaper, which circulates internally, called the Solent Speaker. I worked for the Solent Speaker in a variety of roles including; online editor; picture editor; sports editor and sub-editor, over a period of 12 weeks.

I am a perfectionist and a workoholic. At the moment, my career is all about boosting my CV and developing my experience. I am looking for internships in marketing, public relations and web development. My recent interests have led me to study Action Script and Adobe Flash to create good looking web content.
